----------------------------------------------Plot---------------------------------------------------- Exposition- Katniss and Gale hunt in the woods, Katniss, Prim, and their mother prepare for the selection of the tributes for the Hunger Games. Exciting Force- Katniss's sister, Prim, is picked as a tribute for the Hunger Games. Katniss takes her place as the female tribute from District 12. Rising Action- Katniss is sent to the Capitol and prepared for the Hunger Games. Katniss teams up with Rue, a girl from District 11, to fight the group of Career tributes. Katniss continues to sabotage the Careers when she blows up all of their food. Rue is killed by a district two boy. In retaliation, Katniss kills the district two boy, he is her first kill. Peeta gets sliced in the leg by the Careers that he had been allied with. He hides in a muddy swamp, close to death. Climax- Katniss and Peeta receive the news that the tributes that remain that are both from the same districts, can both survive if they are the last tributes remaining. Falling Action- Katniss searches for Peeta, and when she finds him in the swamp he is severely injured. They hide out in a cave and Katniss nurses Peeta back to health. They hear another announcement that there is going to be a feast, and at the feast is the one thing that each tribute most desires. Katniss knows that she will find the medicine that will save Peeta's life at the feast. She puts Peeta to sleep and heads out to the feast. When she gets there she sprints toward the District 12 backpack, but before she knows it , Glimmer, a District one tribute pounces, and is ready to kill Katniss. Right as Glimmer is about to cut Katniss's mouth , Thresh , a powerful District 11 boy comes behind Glimmer and kills her, saving Katniss's life. Thresh says that they are even now because Katniss helped Rue. Cato and Foxface leave the feast unharmed. Katniss gets the medicine back to Peeta, and he gets better quickly. Once Peeta is healthy again they go hunting for food. While Katniss is hunting, Peeta picks berries that he does not know are poisonous. When Peeta is not looking Foxface comes and steels the berries that he had picked. She eats them and dies almost instantly. Now, only Katniss, Peeta, and Cato are left In the Arena the officials decide to draw the final three contestants close to each other so they must fight, by taking away all of the water. Katniss and Peeta must journey back to the center of the Arena, to the big lake. When they get there they drink water and then out of nowhere Cato comes frantically running from a wild pack of dogs. Katniss and Peeta head to the top of the cornucopia to get away from the dogs but Cato follows them up. They fight until Cato falls off an is eaten by the dogs. Cato is still alive and suffering, so Katniss shoots him with an arrow and kills him. Katniss and Peeta think that they have won but they hear an announcement that the rules have been changed again and there can be only one winner. Neither Katniss nor Peeta want to kill the other so they both decide that they will act like they are killing themselves. In fear that there will be no victor, they are both named winners. Conclusion- Katniss and Peeta return to the Capitol and are healed in a hospital. They go home on a train and they walk out of the train holding hands. However, Peeta is upset because he knows that Katniss was faking her feelings for him, while he truly loved her.
